How Does the Hotshot Summer Program Work?
Hotshot is an on-demand learning platform for lawyers — think Khan Academy, but for legal practice. You can use it to prepare for assignments, get up to speed on new matters, or learn about topics you're curious about, all at your own pace.
Getting Started
To get access, sign up at www.hotshotlegal.com. Check with your firm to confirm which topics are included in your subscription. Once you have access, usage is unlimited with no additional fees — use it as much as you like.
If you run into any issues, help buttons are available throughout the site. You can also reach the Hotshot team directly at info@hotshotlegal.com.
The Content
Hotshot has about 400 short, video-based courses covering transactional work, civil litigation, business, technology, professional skills, and lots more. Use the search function to find specific topics or browse by category.
Courses are designed to be bite-sized, with each broken into sections of just a few minutes. They work great on mobile, and you can pick and choose what to watch — no need to go in order or finish everything at once.
Each course includes interactive quizzes and a written summary similar to a law school outline. Scores are never tracked or reported, so it's a completely safe place to learn and test yourself.
Tracks
Many firms set up curated learning paths called Tracks. These are collections of courses your firm has selected as a recommended starting point. You can filter by your firm to see any tracks they've created for you.
You can complete the courses in any order and don't need to finish them all at once. When you complete a Track, you'll earn a certificate of completion. Depending on your firm's program, Hotshot may also donate to a charity of the firm's choice, and you can ask about that.
Experiential Learning
Hotshot also includes an Experiential Learning section with discussions and mock assignments. If your firm is running a structured summer program, this is likely where those materials will live. It's less relevant for everyday use, but good to know about.
